What causes bronchitis?

I have had a cough for a few weeks that won't go away. Took some over-the-counter medicine but still feel a tightness in the chest. I'm headed to the doctor, but wanted to know if this could be bronchitis? I don't smoke, maybe it's something else?

Yes, I'm coughing up a storm. Have been for a while and am a little nervous about calling the doctor. Could it be more serious, like lung cancer or bronchitis? Are some coughs normal?

My son is on an extended three-month tour of Europe (as a citizen). He's been complaining that his chest feels full and says he coughs all the time. He's been checking out over-the-counter medications at the local pharmacy. Many of them are prescription strength. What should he do? I'm tempted to tell him to come home

I've been doing some research and believe that I'm suffering from bronchitis. Many symptoms: coughing, chest hurts when I cough, get a little short of breath. I have already set up an appointment at the doctor for next week. In the meantime, though, what can I expect will happen? What will happen at the doctor's office?

I have emphysema and, as a result, have experienced dramatic weight loss. No matter how much I eat, I can't seem to gain weight. I would like to gain some weight so that I have more energy. Does anyone have any tips?

I recently was diagnosed with emphysema. While I have quit smoking and have made lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, etc.), I was wondering if there are any medications out there that are beneficial. My doctor seems to think that my emphysema isn't severe.

Has anyone here every had a bullectomy? This procedure removes the bulla in your lungs to help free up space for more air. My doctor has talked to me about the procedure, but I am reluctant to try it. Any advice?

I recently lost both my grandmother and my grandfather to emphysema, a preventable disease. If you smoke, please consider quitting. It is never too late to stop. If you don't smoke, don't start! Watching two of my loved ones suffer from this disease was horrible.

I am young, only 27, but have been smoking for a long time, about 15 years. Recently I have developed a hacking cough that doesn't go away. When I cough, I bring up a lot of mucous. Could this be a symptom of emphysema? Am I too young to get emphysema?

Are there ways to prevent asthma and lung disease?

My husband recently had a pneumonectomy and is concerned about his recovery. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this surgery and could share their experience with us?

Are there any herbal remedies or alternative treatments that are effective for treating lung diseases?

Is asthma hereditary? I'm worried about passing it along to my children.
Is there any current research being conducted on the causes of asthma?

The doctors are suggesting some extra tests, since I've been having symptoms of bronchitis. Done the chest X-ray and the spirometry test. Now, she wants to do an arterial blood gas test. I hear it can be painful. I guess I need to know how bad it is and if it is really necessary.

I suffer from COPD and have an upcoming trip. I was wondering if it would be best to buy my own portable oxygen unit or rent one. Does anyone know the pros and cons of each?

The humidity is a killer when you're dealing with COPD. How in the world does anyone deal with it?

I don't know if I'm just feeling anxious or what, but it seems like I can't get a full breath. It's a little scary. Could I have COPD?

I'm having trouble explaining COPD to my friends and family. When I just give up and say it's emphysema, I get the guilt-trip looks, like I brought it on myself. What's the difference between the two conditions anyway?

I've been dealing with bronchitis off and on for years, and now it looks to be getting worse. Waiting for tests from CT scan. I feel like I did this to myself, but surely don't deserve it. Just looking for a little support, I guess.

I'm a woman who has never smoked but seems to be dealing with COPD. How can this happen? Since I'm new to all this, I really haven't had time to sit down and do my research.

What are some steps I can take to avoid getting bronchitis? Are there steps for preventing bronchitis?
